Abstract
Aim. To assess baseline clinical periodontal parameters and their dynamics after comprehensive pathogenetic treatment in patients with chronic periodontitis (CP) combined with gastrointestinal tract (GIT) disease, compared to isolated CP.
Materials and methods. A total of 245 participants were enrolled: 205 patients with CP (main group n = 107 — CP+GIT; comparison group n = 98 — isolated CP) and 40 healthy controls (control group). PPD, CAL, GBI, BOP, and OHI-S were assessed at T0, T1 (30 days), and T2 (90 days).
Results. Baseline PPD and CAL were significantly higher in the main group than in the comparison group (p < 0.05). By day 90, comprehensive treatment (VLT + Nigella sativa oil) reduced PPD to 2.6 ± 0.4 mm and GBI to 18.7 ± 4.1%, versus 2.9 ± 0.4 mm and 28.3 ± 4.8% in the comparison group (p < 0.05).
Conclusion. Comprehensive treatment with VLT and Nigella sativa oil was associated with more pronounced improvement in clinical periodontal indices. Randomised comparative studies in clinically homogeneous groups are needed to confirm the independent clinical superiority of this approach.
